What do you do if you find out your new house is haunted?

It’s not like you can sue the previous owner for failing to disclose ghosts, right?

Well, turns out, you can.

In 1989, Helen Ackley sold her home. The new owner found out the home had not one, but at least three ghosts that made regular appearances... moving objects, shaking beds, interacting with people. Helen had even written a story about the house for Reader’s Digest; and the home was part of local ghost tours.

The new owner took Helen to court for failing to disclose these "extra features". And in 1991, the New York Supreme court ruled that 1 LaVeta Place in Nyack was legally haunted. Now known as “the Ghostbuster Ruling,” the decision let the new owner out of his contract. Buying a new house? Better Google it first.
