Ever work a pattern and your gauge matches for the width, but the height doesn't match?
Changing your hook will not fix this problem, (it will just make both measurements off), what you need to do is fix the "Golden Loop" to get the correct height.

This tutorial will show you the three different types of heights you will encounter in double crochet, but this fix can be used in any kind of stitch. Once you learn what kind of crocheter you are you will be able to fix any height gauge problem you encounter.
