Political analyst Eric Ham says pollsters and pundits in the United States “failed to recognise and pay attention to” the effect of the early vote in the midterm elections.

“Early voting across the United States began back in October, the first week of October,” Mr Ham told Sky News Australia.

“At that point, polls simply did not matter. What you needed to do was look at what voters were actually doing, not what they say they were going to do, what they were actually doing. And what we saw was voters in droves going to the polls early and voting.

“That’s how Democrats are able to blunt what we are seeing.”
