Ashley's Come Back Story - The Gift of Blood the Redcross

Virginia Tech basketball star, Ashley Owusu, is calling on fans to help after a frightening health battle. The Big Ten’s 2020 Women's Basketball Freshman of the Year is opening up about her survival of a series of health emergencies last year requiring ER visits and emergency blood transfusions, threatening her athletic career.

Now healthy and determined, Ashley knows one of those lifesaving factors was blood on the shelves when her iron levels dipped dangerously low. But not everyone is as lucky as Ashley. Every 2 seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. When blood isn’t available during shortages or a blood crisis, lives are at stake.

In partnership with the American Red Cross, Ashley now serves as an advocate for blood donation, calling on people like her fans —especially individuals who are Black—to give blood now more than ever.
