Mixing drugs, also known as polysubstance use, occurs when two or more drugs are taken together or within a short time period, intentionally or unintentionally. Even if someone has mixed drugs before, or mixes drugs often, the body can react differently every time. Whether it’s prescription drugs, illicit drugs, and/or alcohol, it is not safe to mix drugs. Combining different types of drugs, such as multiple stimulants (like cocaine and meth) or stimulants and depressants (like amphetamines and alcohol) can yield different, harmful reactions.
