The 17th ASEAN summit is just about to kick off in Cambodia, Russia's FM Lavrov has arrived. (According to Reuters, Joe Biden will also be in attendance! their article reads "...The U.S. president will focus on the Indo-Pacific region and talk about U.S. commitment to a rules-based international order in the South China Sea in his discussions, senior administration officials said earlier this week....")

Pres Biden was also in attendance at #COP27; he pins the blame for "global issues" on Russia (again). The West pushes its green agenda at the UN climate summit in Egypt, while much of Africa suffers from energy poverty, unable to meet the needs of its population.

Janet Yellen was in India this week and questioned the reliability of Russia as an "energy partner". She also brought up China and human rights issues and solar panels which she alleges are "produced under forced labour.

"The First Amendment at work" - that's how a former US National Security Advisor responded to the detention and removal of a journalist who pressed him with questions on US war crimes. RT discusses this case with the journalist who was detained for deeming to ask.

The US ambassador to Israel says Washington will fight the Jewish state's attempts to annex the West Bank. That is despite the plan to build a building in the occupied territories that the Palestinians oppose.

Report from Fiorella Isabel re: Accusations without substantiation or evidence. Around a month ago, Pramila Patten (a Mauritian-British barrister) accused Russian soldiers in the UN, of using viagra to rape women in Ukraine. see https://rumble.com/v1ocxqv-rt-news-october-17th-2022.html . She now admits she had no evidence and was merely briefed of this by "Ukrainian officials". (Also recall high-up Ukrainian official Denisova who sold stories to the western press which were so wild that Ukraine .gov fired her.)

Candace Owens asks about how wisely the money given to Ukraine by NATO and the allies is being spent and call on U.S. government for investigations.

The E.U. wants to give $18 billion of "winter aid" to Ukraine (to be paid off in 35 years....) Hungary doesn't agree with this and nor do most of the citizens in E.U. member states. Incidentally this money is separate from other monies Ukraine is receiving from the E.U.

US and UK troops train to ‘pacify Russian civilians’ : Media

Russian speakers allegedly role-played as an unruly mob stirred up by “Fakebook” and “Twatter” posts

US and UK military forces have held a joint exercise to practice interoperability and test their latest gadgets and combat techniques on terrain similar to the “Ukrainian steppe,” reportedly including war games simulating how they might “pacify” mobs of angry Russian-speaking civilians.

The ongoing drills are being held in California’s Mojave Desert as part of the Pentagon’s 'Project Convergence', which was expanded this year to include participation by allies Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK.

The troops, including an elite British infantry regiment, practiced “lessons learned” from the Russia-Ukraine conflict while training on open desert landscapes deemed “similar to the flat terrain of the Ukrainian steppe,” the UK’s Times newspaper said.

The drills took place at Fort Irwin, a sprawling US Army base that includes realistic-looking mock villages built with the help of Hollywood set designers. In years past, Arabic speakers and Afghans were hired and brought in from the Los Angeles area to play the part of civilians. This time around, with the Russia-Ukraine conflict raging in Eastern Europe, most of the non-combatants were played by Russian speakers.

“The fake civilians even have their own social media networks – 'Fakebook' and 'Twatter' – on which they whip up an unruly mob by reporting any examples of US troops behaving poorly,” the Times said. “The soldiers must then pacify the crowds.”

The exercise marked the first time that members of the UK’s new Ranger Regiment deployed alongside the US 75th Ranger Regiment, according to a UK government statement. It allowed troops to test advanced technology – such as artificial intelligence, robotics and new drones – while practicing information-sharing procedures with their allies.

For instance, swarms of drones identified targets and British rocket launchers fired at enemy positions spotted by US F-35 fighter jets, the Times said. UK defense procurement minister Alex Chalk said the exercise demonstrated the progress that the British Army is making as a “more lethal, agile and expeditionary force, through key collaboration with our longstanding international allies and partners.”

Russia isn’t alone in drawing the attention of Western military planners. An earlier stage of Project Convergence simulated a conflict breaking out on a Pacific island, after the Pentagon identified China as the top threat to US national security.

Retired UK general calls for a second cold war

The former NATO "big wig" has argued that the West must refuse to negotiate with Russia

Retired UK General Richard Shirreff, formerly deputy commander of NATO, has called for members of the Western military bloc to refuse any negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the Ukraine crisis.

“Any hint of negotiation will be exactly what Putin is looking for because it will mean he can hang on to bits of what he’s got,” Shirreff said this week in a Times Radio interview. “And make no mistake: His longer-term aims and the aims of any ultranationalist following Putin will be to continue the war, continue to try and rebuild the Russian empire and to wipe Ukraine off the map.”

Shirreff, who retired in 2014 after a four-year stint as the top British officer in NATO, argued that a negotiated settlement to end the fighting wouldn’t achieve anything. “All it will do is allow Russia to regain, rebuild, regenerate, retrain and have another go. The bottom line is this: There will not be peace in Europe while Putin or a Putin look-alike is in the Kremlin.”

"We are going to have to fight a second cold war to prevent a third world war."

Shirreff’s comments suggest that NATO shouldn’t settle for anything less than a complete Ukrainian victory on the battlefield and regime change in Moscow. US President Joe Biden called for regime change in the Kremlin last March, but he said days later that he was merely expressing his “moral outrage” over the conflict, not communicating official US policy.

The top-ranking US general, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, said on Wednesday that this week’s pullback of Russian forces in Kherson Region could lead to peace talks. “When there’s an opportunity to negotiate, when peace can be achieved, seize it,” he said. However, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan insisted that Washington wasn’t pressuring Ukraine to the negotiating table.

Shirreff said the pullback from Kherson shows that Western aid to Ukraine is “money well spent.” The longtime NATO hawk previously pushed the bloc to seek a permanent military presence in the Baltic states to counter “Russian aggression.”
