The Harmon Hotel

Las Vegas' CityCenter is an urban complex in the middle of the Strip. The advertising has always been appealing to high-end customers, which include residential condos, a retail mall, and all of the conveniences required for an advanced standard of living.

The Harmon Hotel will be 137 meters tall. It includes a roof pool which offers an unmatched view of the Strip. The construction started with these plans in 2007 and is estimated to cost $275 million dollars, but it's only half built when it halted construction.

In 2008, they found that steel reinforcements meant to stabilize the building were installed incorrectly, so construction was halted on the 28th floor. This is why it's important to have inspections before signing off on projects. Condominiums were removed from the plans, which meant that refunds had to be given to those who have already made purchases.

MGM, the owners of The Harmon, wrapped the building in reflective glass and sold it as advertisement space. In 2011, reports surfaced that the Harmon would not survive an earthquake, and would collapse due to structural problems if there ever was one. In response to the incident, MGM announced they would be demolishing the building. They did so because of its proximity to other buildings and in a bid to minimize collateral damage. The only downside is that it took a lot more time since they had to dismantle the tower floor by floor rather than just following the usual process of implosion. The process of dismantling The Harmon resort started in June of 2014 and was completed in the latter part of 2015. The tally for this project is reportedly $170 million, with an additional $450 million spent on the construction. Due to extreme structural issues, it was never opened to the public and took almost a year to be dismantled.
