Floodwaters in Chiang Mai were reported as receding levels yesterday after a respite from storms saw the Ping river water level dropping. The city is still far from dry but any drain off is welcome. Pumps are still running 24/7 to speed up the cleanup. The drop in river levels is slowly passing downstream toward the capital as heavy rains have subsided leaving behind the filth and aftermath for residents to clean up. Toward the capital, flooded plains, where waters were diverted in an attempt to avoid overflows in the capital, have seen farmers reporting a zero chance of crops. Nationwide, 3 and a quarter million rai of farm and homeland remains flooded, spreading over 25 provinces, with Nakhon Sawan showing the greatest of devastation. Closely followed by Ayutthaya, Pichit, Suphan buri, Sukotai, Kamphaeng phet, and most of Issan.
