Malaysian beauty queen apologises over controversial remarks on George Floyd protests

A Malaysian beauty queen has apologised after saying black people should "relax". Her comment was in response to the ongoing George Floyd protests in the US. On Instagram, Samantha Katie James had called on black people to take the situation as a "challenge" since they "chose" to be born as a "coloured person in America for a reason". More than 80,000 people signed an online petition calling for her to be stripped of her Miss Universe Malaysia 2017 crown.
