Our favorite Malaysian dish is Char Kway Teow, which is fried rice noodles with shrimp, it is like Pad Thai in a way, but completely different flavors - it may actually be the ancestor of Pad Thai..You can buy it on the street for $1-2. In the video it's cooked in 1 minute, 30 seconds, by a hawker on Mundri Street, in Georgetown, Penang Malaysia. Hers was one of the best versions of this dish I've ever tasted. Besides shrimp, other ingredients include tiny cockels/clams, egg, bean sprouts, and sometimes squid, sweet Chinese sausage and/or duck eggs are added. Seasonings are dark soy sauce, garlic, chives and chili paste. Maybe a little fish sauce too.
