The Eastern Finnish city of Kotka removes a statue of Lenin from a public park in the city centre, near to a wooden house where the Bolshevik Party founder is rumoured to have stayed. The statue is last large public monument to the Soviet leader to remain the Nordic country. According to Kotka City Planning Director, Markku Hannonen, while the statue "is perhaps to some extent dear" to some residents, "many have also wished to remove it from the streets, simply because it reflects a repressive period in Finnish history".
