a life | stop motion (one minute)

I made this one minute stop motion film for school. It's the first time I've made a stop motion. I made it with paper cut-outs and with a lamp in the background to create a shadow play kinda look (because I don't have a light box, I made something similar myself).

The subject of the film, obviously, is life. I tried to show the essence of life in one minute. First of all you can see the different stages of life, sometimes with a value attached to it: there is asstonishment when the character is a child, love when he is a young man and loss when he get's old.
Something else I tried to do, is start the stop motion at the left side and let it end at the right. The idea behind this is the reading order. We start left and at the end we are at the right side.
There are also other lifes in the story. The dog and the bird grow old faster then the boy, because this is the same in real life.

Music: One summer's day, from Joe Hisaishi (from the movie spririted away)

I tought the following quote was a nice summary of my stop motion film:

"Wij zijn in dit universum geboren, spelen en groeien erin op, worden verliefd en staan aan het eind van ons leven oog in oog met de dood. Maar tussen al deze bedrijven door zien we ons voortdurend geplaatst voor een reeks overweldigende vragen."

" We are born into this universe, we grow up, work, play, fall in love, and at the ends of our lives, face death. Yet in the midst of all this activity we are constantly confronted by a series of overwhelming questions."
- David Peat, uit: Synchronicity: The bridge between matter and mind, 1987 -
