Ukrainian forces fired at Russian targets from the frontline of the eastern city of Bakhmut on Friday (November 4) using captured Russian artillery, as fierce fighting around the city drags on.

Reuters journalists saw a captured Russian T-80 tank and a 2S23 Nona SVK mortar, now controlled by Ukrainian crews, firing at Russian targets.

According to a Ukrainian military press attache, both were captured from the Russians in March and took “months” to refit for Ukrainian military use. The two artillery pieces, which their Ukrainian crews describe as “gifts,” are now being used to fend off Russian attacks from the besieged Bakhmut.
