Rescue operation under way after passenger plane crash-lands in Lake Victoria

A rescue mission got under way after a passenger plane crash-landed in Lake Victoria, Tanzania, near the north-western city of Bukoba.

The plane could be seen submerged in the lake as rescuers attempted to haul it out, saving people trapped inside. William Mwampaghale, the police commander in the Kagera province, said 'when the aircraft was about 100 metres midair, it encountered problems and bad weather'.
