Nearly 30 million people were under lockdown across China on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 as COVID-19 cases surged.

An entire street is sealed off and many roads are empty in Shanghai as China wrestles to control the outbreak and threat to the nation's zero-tolerance COVID-19 strategy.

In Shenzhen, 17 million people have been under lockdown since Monday. Shenzhen authorities took the measures on Sunday when Omicron flared-up in factories and neighborhoods in nearby Hong Kong

Major Apple supplier Foxconn also suspended its operations in Shenzhen.

Authorities reported 2,300 new virus cases nationwide on Monday and almost 3,400 a day earlier, the highest daily figure in two years.
