Thousands of students from the National Association of University Students Executive Bodies (BEM SI), rallied in front of the House of Representatives in Jakarta on Monday, April 11, 2022, to reject the suggested plan to postpone the 2024 legislative and presidential elections.

Students also protested in other cities in Indonesia. Over the past few months, some political party leaders and Cabinet ministers, have endorsed a proposal to extend President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s final term, while the preparations for the polls have been stalled.

President Jokowi on Sunday asserted the general elections would be held according to schedule, on Feb. 14, 2024, and a new General Elections Commission (KPU) would be inaugurated soon.
