Indonesia is at the forefront of biofuel advancement worldwide, especially with regard to biodiesel, but their contribution to decarbonization is questionable since the biodiesel is heavily dependent on palm oil as the sole feedstock. This dependency risks further environmental damage resulting from the industry's unsustainable plantation practices.
The Indonesian biodiesel industry is in dire need of diversifying their feedstock. However, there are several barriers for palm oil alternatives that prevent them from penetrating the market.
