Jokowi says new capital project must continue

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said during his annual State Address on Tuesday that the construction of the new national capital, dubbed Nusantara, must continue.

He claimed the new capital would not only house government officials but would also become a new driving economic force.

Jokowi said the core government area of the new capital would be financed by the state budget alone but noted that private investors had been invited to finance 80 percent of the project as a whole.
