They Sent Me OVER $100 In Import Video Games!
In this episode, we received over $100 worth of games in this month's video games monthly unboxing! What were they? Let's take a look.
I recently resubscribed to Video Games Monthly, a monthly subscription service that sends you anywhere from 3 to 10 retro video games right to your mailbox. The reason I returned was simple. First of all, convention season is over for me so I won't be picking up many additional games for the rest of the year. But the big reason I re-signed up to Video Games Monthly is that they have added the option of Japanese GameCube games to their offerings. Since I recently picked up and am repairing a Panasonic Q, I thought I would give this a shot.
I currently subscribe to the three games per month tier, as that will often get me anywhere from 3 to 5 Games per month depending on if I get a 1Up or 2UP. The systems I currently have selected that I would like them to send me games for are the Japanese GameCube, the Sega Master System, and the Nintendo Famicom. In this box, I did get a card for a 1UP, which meant I received 4 games instead of just 3.
What we got:
Pokemon Colosseum
Japanese Nintendo GameCube
Value: $88
Disney Parks/Magical Party
Japanese Nintendo GameCube
Value: $9
Mario Power Tennis
Japanese Nintendo GameCube
Value $7
Ninja Gaiden 3 razor's edge
Nintendo Wii U
Value $12
This month is a really weird box for me because the games that have the most value have little interest, and the games with the most interest have little value. I'm absolutely thrilled to have a copy of Ninja Gaiden 3 and Mario Tennis for the Japanese GameCube added to my collection but combined they're only worth $20.
The heavy hitter in the box, and the most valuable game I've ever received from Video Games Monthly, is clearly Pokemon Colosseum. While not as expensive as the US version, the Japanese version fetches a fair price. The problem? I have no interest in Pokemon games. None. I know that is going to hurt some people's hearts when I say that, but it's just not a genre that I've ever gotten into. Plus, as I've said many times before, I'm not an RPG fan and Pokemon is all about turn-based mechanics.
It's quite odd that I did not get any cartridges this month, I don't think that's ever happened before where I've just received disc-based games. As such there was no cleanup to really do on any of the games. I did inspect all of the discs, and they all look terrific. I'm also thrilled that all of the Japanese games also included manuals, slip sheets, and other items that are commonly missing from their us counterparts. Pokemon even included the memory card!!
It's great to get a Wii U game anytime, and Ninja Gaiden 3, from what I've heard, is a terrific game. This is one of those that will not stay sealed and I will be opening to play. At $12 it's not like I'm ruining value by opening and playing it.
This is by far the most valuable box I've ever received From Video Games Monthly and kudos to those guys for that. It's a bummer and a good thing that they did not follow my requests on this as it netted me the most valuable game I've ever received from them and pokémon coliseum. But if you're never going to play the game, does it really have much value?
