Typhoon Nanmadol, the fifth most powerful storms to strike Japan since accurate records were kept, is leaving a trail of devastation since making landfall in the southern island of Kyushu on September 19, 2022. At least two people have been reported killed and about 260,000 homes are without power. More than 9.5 million people living in the typhoon's path were told to evacuate as early as September 17. Weather forecasters say the typhoon could reach Japan’s main island of Honshu in two days.
