A sip of thick black tenom coffee amidst the coolness of Mount Kinabalu ah… how delicious! On a mountain located in the State of Sabah, Malaysia, we enjoy the sensation of adventuring in a virgin nature which is declared a world heritage site.

We departed from the capital city of Sabah, Kota Kinabalu, at around 07.30. At the invitation of the Sabah Tourism Board, we and the airline AirAsia had the opportunity to visit Mount Kinabalu in mid-April 2015. The mountain has been protected with its status as a national park.

The trip to Mount Kinabalu with a distance of about 90 kilometers takes 2 hours. The Government of the State of Sabah has apparently prepared the infrastructure to support tourism very well. Along the road, the asphalt is smooth—without any traffic jams.

The guide, Bobby Weslee (42), enthusiastically explained our destination. Kinabalu is Malaysia's first national park. The inauguration of the national park in 1964 was followed by the recognition of a world heritage site from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2000.

Pekan Nabalu is the main stopover before arriving at Mount Kinabalu. Tourists can unwind for a moment while shopping for typical crafts such as hats, key chains, and bags. The cold air makes the appetite creep. In Nabalu Week there are several shops. What's the most distinctive dish if not the typical Sabah tenom coffee. In the shop, the barista makes coffee by transferring the brew many times to different glasses. Similar to how to make aceh pull coffee. Less than 5 minutes, the coffee has been served with steam still steaming. Organic Sabah tea with a strong aroma and taste can also be ordered. We also sip warm drinks accompanied by several types of snacks.
