The United States holds its midterm elections on 8 November 2022. The outcome will have a major impact on the remaining two years of Joe Biden's presidency, and beyond.

The president accused his predecessor Donald Trump and his supporters of undermining democracy, referring to threats by some Republican candidates who said they would refuse to accept the outcome if they lose.

Republicans hit back, saying Mr Biden was seeking to "divide and deflect".
