kyphosis occurs when the bones in the thoracic region of the spine become shaped like wedges. There is no clear reason for the development of Scheuermann’s kyphosis. But many anatomic and physiological changes may increase the risk of Scheuermann’s kyphosis developing.

Many scientists believe that Scheuermann's kyphosis is a genetic disease, which is inherited by children from their parents. One scientific study revealed mild osteoporosis in some young people who were affected by Scheuermann’s kyphosis.
