It is often important to be able to express one's feelings in Spanish. A variety of words can be used to express emotions meaning emociones, or a state of mind caused by an experience, in Spanish. For example, words used in Spanish related to the expression of happiness are contento or felíz meaning "happy," sorpresa meaning "surprise," and alegre which means "joyful." Emotions of anger and fear are expressed with words like miedo meaning "fear" and enojado meaning "angry." Words like triste meaning "sad," and disgustado meaning "upset" are other examples of emociones. Triste is related to the expression of sadness and it is used to translate the phrase "feeling blue." Asco means "disgust" and in Spanish, it is mostly used to express feelings about things related to the senses like taste and smell. If Spanish learners can master these words related to emotions, then it will be easier for them to express their feelings and understand the feelings of others.
