Hey Friends,

Stress is not a reason to eat. Food is not a reward, stress relief, or anything but fuel- albeit delicious and amazing fuel-and you must think of it this way. I know, I know, it can be a painful process, but if your goal is fat loss and feeling better – it must be done. We’ve allowed emotion and food consumption to become an intertwined relationship and have allowed emotion to rule how we eat. Bad day? Eat pizza. Stressed at work? Reach for the Snickers bar. It’s time to remove all emotion around food and create better coping skills.

Instead, it’s time to turn to other activities that can provide relief from the negative feelings you’re receiving from stress. Understanding the underlying reasons for your actions will help you change them for the better. Taking part in stress-relieving activities, like exercise, laughter and a good conversation, all can help you avoid the habit of allowing emotion to guide how we eat. It’s also important to note that stress makes us CRAVE highly palatable foods-foods that are high in fat, salt, and sugar- that's why a Snickers bar tastes so damn delicious-it hits the pleasure points in our brain and releases dopamine. So today, try hitting those dopamine responses with non-food activities as well as eating as food that nourishes you but also hits those responses. Olives, cheese, honey, fruit, and salty meat are excellent choices (sounds like a “happy vibe” charcuterie, right?). You’ll be amazed at how well it works and how great you’ll feel.
