In the east, Russian troops attempted to capture Kharkiv, less than 35 kilometres (22 mi) from the Russian border,and met strong Ukrainian resistance. On 25 February, the Millerovo air base was attacked by Ukrainian military forces with OTR-21 Tochka missiles, which according to Ukrainian officials, destroyed several Russian Air Force planes and started a fire.
