Spanish soccer fan missing in Iran while walking to World Cup in Qatar

A 41-year-old Spanish soccer fan who set off for Qatar on foot to watch the Spanish team at the 2022 World Cup has gone missing in Iran. Santiago Sanchez left Madrid in January, and was last heard from on October 1 after sending friends a photograph of himself at the Iranian border. The Spanish Foreign Ministry confirmed Sanchez was in Iran, and his family fears that Sanchez has been arrested by Iranian authorities.
