Typhoon Nanmadol hits south-western Japan

It was packing gusts of up to almost 150mph and had already dumped up to 500mm of rain in less than 24 hours. Nanmadol is forecast to turn east and pass over Japan's main island of Honshu before moving out to sea by Wednesday.
