The Hardest Part of Animal Husbandry

We love raising animals for a variety of reasons but inevitably they will get sick and need treatment. Being ready to act could be the difference between life and death so preparedness is key.

We believe that as long as our animals are in our care it’s our duty to give them the best life that we can – if they’re going to provide for our family we are going to provide for them in return. On top of food, water, and shelter, providing for their medical and nutritional needs is also important.

We like to keep a variety of medicines and minerals on hand so that we can readily treat some of the most common ailments our herd and flock will face. Spending time with our animals daily ensures that we’re aware of their condition and if we notice there’s a problem we can act before it gets too bad.

If you have livestock then eventually you will have “deadstock” and there’s no way to avoid that. As farmers, ranchers, and homesteaders we will make mistakes but it’s important to learn from them to prevent the same thing from happening in the future. I think we can also learn from the mistakes of others which is my hope in sharing this with you all.
