Sunak is a 42-year-old investment professional who has served as the Labour Party’s shadow finance minister since 2015. He became the party’s candidate for London Mayor in 2016 but lost to Sadiq Khan. Prior to that, Sunak was a senior political correspondent for The Indian Express. So, he’s no stranger to politics – but he’s also no stranger to the fight for social justice. The new UK PM is a powerful advocate for diversity and inclusion, and his experience as the first person of colour to lead Britain will be a key asset as the UK moves forward. He is also a well-known politician in Britain he was formerly the Secretary of State for International Development, is now serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom since the 25th of October 2022 and is also known to be the Leader of the Conservative Party since 24 October 2022. *Who is Rishi Sunak?*
Sunak was born in the English port city of Southampton to Hindu Punjabi immigrants from East
Africa. Rishi Sunak, like many others before him, went on to study politics, philosophy, and
economics at the University of Oxford. He received a first-class degree. Later, he earned a
master's degree in business administration (MBA) from Stanford University.

*Rishi Sunak's Career*
Following college, Rishi Sunak worked for Goldman Sachs before becoming a partner at two
hedge fund firms, The Children's Investment Fund Management and Theleme Partners. In the
2015 general election, he was elected to represent Richmond (Yorks), and he served as
Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Local Government in Theresa May's second
ministry. Sunak supported Boris Johnson's attempt to lead the Conservative Party after May
stepped down. Sunak was appointed Chief Secretary to the Treasury by Johnson when he was
elected Prime Minister. Sunak took over as Chancellor of the Exchequer when Sajid Javid
resigned in February 2020.

United Kingdom, particularly those interested in entering politics. Sunak, on the other hand, is
likely to face intense scrutiny because he hails from a wealthy family and his wife, an
Indian-born IT heiress was not paying the highest rate of British tax as a fully domiciled U.K.
resident until recently.
