Autumn travel experiences: from exploring pumpkin patches to marveling at leaves changing color

Though summer has come to an end, travel doesn’t have to stop. If you can get out of the city and into the countryside in autumn, you’ll experience one of the most beautiful seasons in the Northern Hemisphere. The leaves are changing color, and fall festivals are taking place all around the country. You can visit pumpkin patches or go on a haunted hayride; there’s something for everyone when it comes to autumn travel experiences. Here are some great ones to consider in your next vacation planning efforts!

Pumpkin Patches
I had a great time going to the pumpkin patch with my family. We drove out into the country and found a farm we didn't know about before. The only downside was that there were so many people that I couldn't go on any of the rides. Other than that, it was really enjoyable. My brother and I got to pick out our own pumpkins and decorate them. My parents even took some pictures for us to remember this special trip! I also loved looking at all the different fall leaves as they changed colors and fell off the trees. It's amazing how nature can change from one season to another in such a short amount of time. Now when I walk outside, all I see is reds and oranges and yellows--such a beautiful sight!

Leaves Changing Color
This year I've spent the majority of my autumn in New England. It's been an incredible experience to see how the landscape changes as the season progresses. With every week, it seems like more and more trees are starting to change colors- all different shades of red, orange, and yellow. One weekend I went with my friends on a hike through a state forest in Massachusetts and we saw so many different varieties of trees that were just beginning to show their fall colors that it was almost overwhelming.

Staying in a Cozy Cabin
It was a cold October morning when we woke up in the cabin. We took our coffee out on the porch and watched as the squirrels scurved about. The air was crisp and we could smell wood smoke coming from one of the other cabins. We took an early morning hike around a nearby lake and saw all sorts of wildlife including a deer, groundhog, and chipmunk.

Going on Hikes
On a typical autumn day, nothing is more refreshing than taking a hike. Whether you're looking for a way to escape the city or just want an excuse to enjoy the outdoors, hiking offers benefits both physical and mental. It's also an activity that can be enjoyed by everyone—there are no age restrictions. Just remember to dress appropriately. Autumn is the time of year when temperatures start dipping, so it's best to wear layers that can be easily removed or put on as needed depending on how warm you feel.

Drinking Warm Drinks
One of the best parts of autumn is drinking warm drinks. Here are some easy and delicious recipes for hot cocoa, apple cider, tea, and more! -Hot Cocoa: To make one serving (serves two), you will need 4 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract or paste, 2 cups of whole milk or low-fat milk. Bring the milk to a simmer in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the cocoa powder and remove from heat. Add sugar or other sweetener if desired.
