Football fans and supporters of Lula da Silva, who won Brazil’s presidential elections this Sunday, have been clearing blockades set up by backers of outgoing Jair Bolsonaro.

In the wake of Lula’s win, Bolsonaro supporters, known as Bolsonaristas, set up hundreds of blockades and called for military intervention, claiming Lula won the election through fraud. The blockades mostly affect the country’s south and were provoked by Bolsonaro’s initial silence, which he broke two days after the results came in, only to not acknowledge defeat and ambiguously say he would respect Brazil’s constitution.

Local media reports that false information is being spread across social media on article 142 of the constitution which Bolsonaristas claim allows a “punctual intervention in the Brazilian electoral system” in order to “moderate political power”.
