Russia said on Wednesday it would renew its participation in an agreement allowing Ukraine to export grain via the Black Sea, just four days after suspending its role in the deal.

Earlier in the day, Russia resumed its participation in the deal after Ukraine provided written guarantees not to use the grain corridor in the Black Sea for combat operations against Russia.

Moscow had pulled out at the weekend, saying it could not guarantee the safety of civilian ships crossing the Black Sea because of a drone attack on its fleet there.

The United Nations welcomes Russia resuming its participation in a deal to facilitate food and fertilizer exports from Ukraine, UN Coordinator for the Black Sea Grain Initiative Amir Abdulla said Wednesday.
