A suspect is dead, and an officer was injured following an officer-involved shooting in Henderson late last month.

The Henderson Police Department was dispatched to a bar near St. Rose Pkwy and Eastern Ave on Monday, September 26, around 7 a.m., following reports of a suspicious man inside.

An employee at the bar described the man as a white male adult in his 40s, possibly on drugs and carrying a weapon on his side.

Police would later identify the suspect as 43-year-old Jason Dunkel.

Dunkel was walking near the intersection when he fled onto the roadway, trying to escape officers.

Body cam and dash cam footage released by police showed Dunkel trying to get into vehicles driving south on Eastern and failing to gain entry to any.

Officers approached Dunkel with a taser, but he continued to escape officers on the roadway.

The suspect then struck an officer in the face with a firearm and was then struck back by the injured officer.

Dunkel was transported to Sunrise Trauma, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police secured the suspect's weapon, which ended up being a BB gun resembling a firearm.

Henderson police did not immediately release an update on the injured officer.
