This is part of a series of videos that we are creating from the San Antonio 110 Organization's 10th Annual 911 Memorial Climb event. The event was organized by the San Antonio 110 organization. #sa110 #sa1102022 You can find out more about the San Antonio 110 organization at https://www.facebook.com/sanantonio110

This video covers the opening ceremonies and speeches just after sunrise, as the participants gather together at the base of the Tower of Americas in downtown San Antonio, then shows the release of the doves and the start of the climb by the firefighters, police and other participants. The Tower is nearly 750ft tall and the participants climbed the stairs, over 600ft to the Observation Deck level, where they exited the stairwell and began to descend via the 2nd stairwell.

Towards the end of the event, there were multiple firefighters and other participants who collapsed from the 90+ degree heat inside the stairwell and had to be helped to complete the descent. There was a line of volunteers willing to return backup the stairs to help their fellow participants, so many that they had to turn some away. Those volunteers took the elevators to the top, then descended until they found the stranded people.

Description of the event from San Antonio's 110 Facebook event page:

"San Antonio 110 9/11 Memorial Climb is a very specific type of 9/11 memorial. There is a reason it is not a 5k, a bike ride, or any other type of "sporting" event. There is a reason it is specifically a climb: to pay tribute to the climb that our 343 fallen firefighter brothers made, and lost their lives in the course of, on September 11th, 2001. That is why we climb, in honor of their sacrifice. In addition we also incorporate tribute to other tragic first responder casualties of 9/11 including the 70 Law Enforcement Officers and 9 EMS personnel who perished at ground zero as well. We highly encourage all types of tributes at our event and for everyone to pay tribute as they feel moved and best fit to. However the sole mission of "110 climbs", created all across the country, is for our brotherhood to honor and remember the lost lives of our 343 firefighters. #SA110 is special in that we also open it to the public as well for friends and family to come and pay respect to the losses of 9/11 while still keeping true to the 110 purpose for our brotherhood.

343 tags will be carried for each of our fallen firefighter brothers up the stairs of the Tower Of The Americas. There will also be 70 tags for the fallen Law Enforcement Officers and 9 for EMS personnel. We will climb these stairs twice to reach (and actually exceed) the 110 floors of the World Trade Center to pay tribute to each. We will complete these climbs for them and their accountability tag will be placed on an accountability board when finished. There are many other symbolic moments and events represented in this event as well to pay respect and honor the lost lives of our brothers of 9/11."

Yellow Rose Drones was happy to be a part of this ceremonial climb for the second year in a row and looks forward to being back again in 2023. Our thanks to Jeff Dillon for acting as our volunteer observer and additional videographer during the event.
