Open Source, DIY $50 Water Turbine, 5 kilowatt hours each day

This turbine can be constructed for approximately $50, which is roughly half the price of a 120 watt solar panel, and it will generate nearly 10 times more energy each day (5 kWh). It requires just common materials that are readily available off the shelf or recycled, along with simple hand tools, and can be plugged into any suitable waterway without the need for earthworks.

The turbine is now operational and generating electricity. Details in full in the video.

This is not thermodynamically free power, but rather free power in terms of economics. In other words, once the turbine is up, you won't have to pay anything for each kilowatt hour it generates. You still need the water's gravitational potential, or power, in order to extract.
