"Lawrence of Arabia, born in England as Thomas Lawrence, graduated from Oxford University and was a member of the British Museum's Euphrates Kahmers Archaeological Team as a general member. From 1916, Lawrence of Arabia, a former British North African intelligence officer, led the Arab resistance against the Turkish army with enthusiasm and confidence in the legacy of the old empire. As a Briton, he was able to blend in completely with the Arabs in terms of language, clothing and habits, thus casting a veil of mystery over his image. By October, this strange and weathered man had taken Damascus and was present at the Paris Peace Conference. Then, incredibly, in 1922, he gave up his public office and legendary status and joined the Royal Air Force (RAF) as a regular airman under the pseudonym Ross, retiring in 1935.
