Crocodiles are good swimmers, their whole body, internal organs, respiratory, including limbs and body structure are designed for life in water. Already from the first days of life, small crocodiles can begin to swim in the pond, while not drowning. They have large and complex lungs. With the help of air in the lungs, the crocodile regulates the depth of its dive and even the center of gravity, distributing air through the lungs due to special muscles. Both in the mouth and in the nasopharynx of the crocodile there are special valves that do not let water into the respiratory tract.
The fact that crocodiles are smart can already be said by the fact that they have survived on Earth. While other animal species that lived with them millions of years ago disappeared. Moreover, the crocodiles did not even have to change. They look the same now as they did millions of years ago. The only thing is that the sizes are not the same, their ancestors were much larger.
By old age, crocodiles lose their ability to reproduce. Most of the time they die because of it. Also, by old age, when crocodiles reach a certain body weight and size, the 4-chamber heart ceases to work well, which can no longer cope with energy costs. Often outwardly it is impossible to figure out how old the crocodile is. Usually crocodiles live from 80 to 110 years. Some crocodiles weigh up to 1000 kg in old age. In captivity, crocodiles live just up to 100 years or more. And in nature, not so often crocodiles live up to 70-80 years, they have many enemies and, first of all, people. Humans kill crocodiles for their leather, which is prized for fashion handbags, shoes, and clothing.
