The Murdered City: St. Louis' Dark
History Of Crime
St. Louis has been called The Murdered City, because its murder rate for decades has been one of the highest in the world. In fact, from 1900 to 2004, St. Louis was one of the most dangerous cities in the United States, with more than 19 murders per every 100,000 residents each year. And while in 2005 it had the highest murder rate of any American city at 45 murders per 100,000 residents annually, its homicide rate has begun to fall since then, and today that number has decreased to 38 homicides per 100,000 residents annually.
