Great Morning England watchers were left raging toward the beginning of today (Thursday, October 27) after one visitor's remarks rankled them. After the ITV leader breakfast show invited writer and pundit Quentin Letts onto the conversation board to talk legislative issues, watchers at home were left in shock at a remark he made about retired people.
While examining government spending, the 59-year-old depicted English retired people as being "accepting kickbacks."
Discussing a report in one of the present papers which alluded to 'mental torment of advanced age beneficiaries', Mr Letts said: "There is likewise, let me just put it to those individuals, mental torment of citizens." He added: "Individuals are paying such an excess of duty that there is mental torment, I think, of the functioning piece of the populace - so remember that too, don't simply discuss individuals accepting kickbacks from the state."
Distrusting watchers at home immediately took to Twitter to communicate their fury at the remark, blaming Letts for "slamming" beneficiaries and requesting a statement of regret for the show. Watchers
additionally needed to know why none of different moderators had stepped in to challenge Letts' "revolting" remark.
"Quentin Letts! Retired people are not accepting bribes," thought of one angry watcher on Twitter, adding: "My significant other worked and PAID charges for a long time, and presently merits the concession of benefits he gets compensated." Contributing to the discussion, another person concurred: "Not here for the slamming of beneficiaries."
"The Conservative ally on @GMB just called retired people 'those accepting kickbacks' and @adilray and the others didn't say anything," blamed another person, as a fourth individual stated: "Quentin Beneficiaries ARE NOT ON THE TAKE they have paid in to accept their benefits!"
A fifth individual supported them up, stating: "Quentin Letts just said retired people are accepting bribes from government despite the fact that they have paid NI all their functioning life. This man is disgusting and ought not be on your program."
"What a nauseating comment," composed one more irate watcher, as individuals on Twitter started requiring an expression of remorse for the remark. "Nauseating Quinten saying retired people are accepting kickbacks," concurred another person, who added: "Beneficiaries have paid into this country for a really long time they have paid into the framework for a really long time."
