Tape Delay Beat, that feels like a sun burn back slap .
Recently I watched a You Tube video of Stewart Copland that took place around 1980, as he explains how he loves to use tape delay on his recording and live performances. I had to go back and really listen to what he was talking about and sure enough the first song I checked out was (Voices in my head).
Unless you aware of these type of effects (like a studio pro) it went over my head for many years.
After listening to a few more songs I have to say I felt a little bit cheated after all I always thought he got his unique sound from amazing technique style infusing, and drum sound.
I later realized the sheer genius of Stewart Copland using tape delay as a tool to enhance his performance and helping to shape those amazing Police records we all still love.
Being a geek, I had to see for myself how this comes into play and how to finagle a tool like this to bring out certain sounds and aspects of my own playing.
