"Well-known Western expert on Russian aviation Petr Butovsky about the Kinzhal complex:

Regarding the correct name of the carrier, Butovsky believes that the MiG-31I should be separated from the MiG-31K, but the difference between them is not very clear. Presumably, the MiG-31I is the vehicles of the second squadron of carriers of the Kinzhal missiles with slight differences from the first batch. According to another version, the MiG-31K was an open index until the presence of the MiG-31I was publicly recognized.

Regarding the rocket itself, Butovsky believes that the Kh-47M2 index is incorrect and calls it 9-S-7760. The length of the rocket is 7.2 meters, the weight is not less than 4 tons, the weight of the warhead is 480 kg. After launch, the rocket is controlled by an inertial guidance system, which is supplemented by satellite correction. At the final part of the flight, the homing system takes control based on radar position correction.

The first squadron of carriers "Daggers" was formed on December 1, 2017 on the basis of the 929th State Flight Test Center of the Russian Ministry of Defense, and it included 11 aircraft. On December 1, 2021, the formation of the second squadron was completed, which made it possible to deploy the new 54th separate aviation regiment.

Speaking of combat use, there are three launches in the spring, as well as several launches in September at facilities in the Kharkiv region. Citing Ukrainian intelligence, Butovsky believes that the number of missiles in warehouses does not exceed 35-40 units, and mass production began relatively recently.
