About A Plague Tale: Requiem
If the original horror Plague Tale focus on de Rune's two children losing their innocence, Part Two shows violence perilous journey is about their struggle with the guilt of their actions.
This new acceptance that she believes is a necessary path for her is reflected in the new tools available to her. The massive crossbow can now be used to take down enemies, including hard-to-kill armored soldiers and forces. It takes a few seconds to finish (this is a 700-year-old weapon that's being operated by a teen after all) but it does have a huge impact when fired. To compensate for their strength, bow arrows appear to come in small quantities, with only a handful available distributed across entire classes. But these arrows can be combined with materials for greater effect, as can any type of ammo such as rocks and throwables.
Some of these chemical mixtures are familiar to those who have played Innocence, such as Ignifer and Extinguis which ignite and extinguish flames respectively, as well as some new ones.
There are more than 20 different combinations of materials and ammo to manipulate in Requiem, and it's even easier to manage thanks to the improved crafting menu and weapons.
Switching weapons has become very seamless, and the fact that we have an unlimited number of rocks to throw at any time is really cool. And Amecia isn't the only one to get new weapons and equipment, as her younger brother Hugo is now able to show off his abilities with the constant rat invasion of France.
Things go very strange for the boy at the end of Innocence as he discovers that he can control mice using his mind. But Hugo seems to be more in tune with his powers now, and he has some new tricks as well. Echo's ability is inspired by other action and stealth games like Hitman or Batman: Arkham series, which allows the player to spot enemies through walls from long distances.
Besides, Imperium's ability that allows Hugo to control mice has been revamped.
The player will no longer have to target where he wants to collect the third-person mice, but instead take his position within the herd and hunt down his prey by directly controlling a wave of rodents. This is a much more satisfying way of shooting a flock at enemies, with very brutal results as rats overpower and eat enemies so quickly that the echoes of their cries are long lasting.
It is not surprising for anyone to hear that there are a lot of mice in this game. Despite the events that happened at the end of the first game, that does not mean that they are all friends with you now too. If you get away from the light, it will turn into dinner, so carefully making your way through puzzle sections is still a big part of the game.
When mice appear on screen, they look absolutely gorgeous, whether they are exploding from underground or rushing through the valley like a deadly black tsunami. Innocence's technical limitations didn't allow more than 5,000 rats to be displayed on screen at any one time, but Requiem has removed those limitations, with technology now allowing more than 300,000 rats to appear around you at any given time.
