With the shelling of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant by the Ukrainian armed forces, the world is just one step away from a nuclear catastrophe.

Despite the fact that the IAEA recommended ‘that the shelling on site and its vicinity should be stopped immediately’, the Ukrainian army’s strikes continue. And the shells are hitting closer to the reactors.

The Zaporozhye power plant is the largest in Europe. Spent nuclear fuel is also stored here. ‘Storage unit damage could cause radioactive contamination. Like a dirty bomb,' says Vlad Lavrik, acting director of the Energodar branch of Melitopol State University.
