The squishy Christian narrative tells a weak gospel that isn't supported by Scripture. It teaches that God tries to save everybody but is just too weak to be successful. According to this narrative, it is up to the person to make his own salvation happen. Scripture tells us that nothing in creation can keep a believer from the love of God. Yet, this mainstream Christian narrative teaches that you can keep yourself from the love of God by not "accepting" him. It's up to you and not God to save you. This is completely contrary to Scripture. God tells us in Scripture that he will have mercy on who he has mercy. God saves without the help from sinners like us.
