Store Switch Games In An NES CARTRIDGE?!?
In this Episode, we have unbox and check out the Retro Fighters Retro85 cartridge case for the Nintendo Switch.
Retro Fighters is well known for making some amazing controllers and accessories, and their latest is something I am really excited that I can finally talk about. Retro Fighters has a new case for Nintendo Switch Cartridges, and the design is based upon one of the greatest cartridge shapes of all-time: The Nintendo Entertainment System! The result is what you see here, the Retro85 Mini NES Cartridge Switch Game Cases.
The Retro85 is actually 8 cases in one larger transparent transportation case. This hard case not only helps you transport your cartridges, but also protect them. The individual cases feature a locking mechanism to hold your Switch Cartridges safely and securely, even outside of the larger transportation case. One of the neatest features is the integrated window in the Mini NES case which prominently displays your title's label. This way you can quickly and easily identify your games at a glance.
I cannot understate the scale quality that has gone into these cases. It is quite literally as if someone took and hit an NES cartridge with a shrinking ray, they look that good, and there's even the sticker on the back! These are simply too cool! Sliding the Switch cart into the Retro85 is super easy, and once installed, you can clearly see the label as if it were that of an NES Cartridge. To remove the Switch cartridge, simply push the cartridge in and it will eject right out of the Retro85. It really couldn't get much easier!
Why it RoX:
- Only $14.99
- Scale detail is outstanding in the Switch Cases
- Store and transport 8 games at a time
- Easy store and removal
- Push-to-eject mechanism
What could be improved:
- Case doesn't always line up when trying to close
- Front latch would be better as a hinge vs a pressure fit
- The outer carrying case design doesn't match the awesome styling of the individual cases
- Can be challenging to remove from the carrying case
Should you buy one?
At only $14.99, this is a fun and inexpensive way to store, carry, and transport your Switch Cartridges while traveling. These can also really help reduce the area you need to store your collection as well. I would love to see a V2 where the outer shell also looks like an NES Cartridge, that would just nail the looks. I'd also like to see a redesigned main hinge and closing clasp to better align the halves to close and latch more easily. I personally have to say I love the looks and performance of the Retro85, and I am thrilled that I have another set on the way!
