Body cam: Policy advisor for Hamilton County Mayor Wamp resigns after DUI arrest

Davis Lundy has resigned his position, according to Mayor Wamp's office in a release sent Monday.

Mayor Wamp says,

Having recently learned about Mr. Lundy’s arrest, I am very disappointed in his apparent lack of judgment. Mr. Lundy offered his resignation earlier today, which I accepted. I’m encouraged by the talented team we are building to lead county government into the future and we won’t be slowed by this regrettable distraction.

Walter Davis Lundy, who currently serves as Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp's policy advisor, was arrested in Ooltewah last week, according to the Collegedale Police Department.

Collegedale Assistant Chief of Police Jamie Heath says an officer stopped Lundy on Thursday, October 6th, at the 9400 block of Apison Pike, on suspicion of DUI.

An arrest report we obtained said the officer smelled marijuana coming from Lundy's car and on his person. Lundy told the officer he had smoked 90 minutes earlier, according to the report.

The report says a search revealed 0.7 grams of suspected marijuana inside the car, a glass of red wine, and an opened bottle of red wine.

The report says Lundy told the officer he had been at Beef O'Brady's, that he poured a glass of wine in his vehicle when he left, and that he took a few drinks of the wine while he was driving.

Assistant Chief Heath says that officer arrested Lundy and charged him with driving under the influence, possession of marijuana, possession of an open container of alcohol, and refusal of implied consent.[

Lundy was given a $1,500 bond and will appear in court in Collegedale on November 30th.

In a release sent out on his first day in office, September 1st, Mayor Wamp announced Lundy would be working for his team as a policy advisor. He also worked on Wamp's successful campaign.
