The Alamo race is held in honor of the brave messengers who managed to escape the Alamo while it was being surrounded by Santa Anna's Mexican Army in the dead of night. The messengers raced out in several directions in order to raise the alarm of imminent battle at the Alamo in the hope that reinforcements from the Texian Army would arrive in time to take on the fight for Texas independence. #horseracing #The1836 #NechesTexas #AmericanHeartlands

The 1836 takes place during the celebration of Texas’ Independence every year at the Diamond B Ranch in Neches, Texas. There are multiple divisions of wagon races, a cowboy-style match race, pasture roping, barrel race, and a mounted shooting competition.
