Meditation is emptying the mind. In search of self-knowledge, not-doing prepares us for what must be done. First of all, forget the definition contained in the dictionaries. Eastern masters have as a fundamental teaching knowing how to be silent, keep the mind empty and seek inner wisdom. Thinking nonstop, talking continuously, and doing something all the time produces anxiety and takes us away from ourselves. Silence awakens the soul, an empty mind connects us with the Universe and non-doing prepares us for what must be done. Meditating is focusing the mind, putting worries aside, living in the here and now. During meditation, one connects with the field of pure energy, intelligence and consciousness. This trip requires willingness and takes a long time. Our mind splits in two. We have an awareness of the senses – seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, touching – and a mental awareness, which involves our intellectual processes, feelings and emotions, memory and dreams. Meditation is an activity of mind consciousness. Taming the mind and bringing it to the understanding of reality.
