Episode 2: Shaytan, another Ethiopic word

Manfred Kropp makes the case that the Arabic word Shaytan has some distant etymological meaning as the rope used to fetch water from a well. However, the widespread use of the literary use of the word Satan would have made a more obvious choice of word for the devil used in the Qur'an. He offers a simple explanation: the precedent had already been made in the century before in the Ethiopic Bible. It was from that the word, Shaytan, was chosen over the more obvious and widespread use of the word, Satan, in the Middle East.
